25 Oct Is The Digital Nomad Lifestyle For You?
If I told you twenty years ago that I can make a living out of traveling with a laptop and an internet connection, you’d probably call me crazy. Believe it or not, such is the case for the few out there. They are referred to as “digital nomads.” The freedom lifestyle is more popular than ever. A lot of young entrepreneurs want the freedom to live where they want, not have to go into an office and to essentially be able to travel as much as they desire.
The internet has made possible that the desires of these entrepreneurs are achievable with a ton of courage and passion. But, a lifestyle like this isn’t for everyone. Yeah, you may think it’s cool and awesome and first, but if you stop and think about it, there’s cons that you need to consider, too.
Run through this checklist to make sure if the digital nomad life is for you.
1. Meeting strangers in a daily basis over family.
Yes, you can bring your work all over the world, wherever you may choose, but I can’t say the same for you family. You can’t bring your family with you in this journey is what I’m saying, unless you’re super wealthy and you can afford doing so. That means you’ll have to leave them behind, and start the journey without them. You’re going to be using Skype a lot and that’s fine with some people, but for people like me, that isn’t going to cut it.
2. Wi-fi is your life.
Since the digital nomad life is made possible only through the internet, how can you make a living if you aren’t connected. No wifi, no money—game over.
3. You have no stuff because you have no home.
I advise bringing only a handful of stuff in your journey, because of the simple reason that you can’t carry all of them. If you want a a pet cat, your guitar and loop pedal, or your collection of books with you—forget about it. That’s the life you’ve left behind. You’re going to have to live out of a suitcase.
If you’ve gone through this list and are okay with all three, then maybe, just maybe…the digital nomad lifestyle is for you.
