So you keep reading about tips on how to become an effective virtual assistant—that’s a great start. However, what’s important is application. This is the first step to become super: “WANT THE CHANGE”. If you want it, then you will act on it. Einstein once said that the definition of insanity is “doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results.” If you want a change in the way you manage things for your client or yourself, then you have to change something.

2. Understand your Client’s Niche

Have you ever wondered why you client’s company name is in acronyms? Or why is the theme blue? Or why have they become an action coach, or a dating coach, or a family coach?

You may see the answers on your client’s website, or it may be Googled. When you voice out these questions, you would be surprised to hear a more personal and touching story behind it.

Researching is not enough, you have to understand what’s going on as well. That way, you will understand why you have to create a Landing page, why you have to open their Facebook Page every single day, why you have to update the CRM and Blogs every week, or why you have to blast out a newsletter every month.

Knowing the ‘why’ will place clarity on your goals as well.

3. Don’t nod your head “Yes” when you want to say “No”

“Do you know how to set-up a Website using WordPress?”, your client asks through a phone call. So your mind goes blank for a millisecond before it screams, “WHAT IS WORDPRESS?!” Then you find yourself nodding your head while saying, “Oh sure! I can set-up a website using WordPress!”

Of course you CAN set-up a website using WordPress, but do you actually know HOW to do it?

Don’t commit to something you are unsure of. Admit that you don’t know, but you will learning how to set it up. As you train yourself, you will soon realise that it’s a win-win situation between you and your client. Your client his/her website, and you got another skill to add to your portfolio.

4. Expand your horizon

Imagine your boyfriend/girlfriend, spouse, or son/daughter going out for the night with friends. You don’t know where they went, you don’t know what they’re doing at a certain hour, you don’t know when they’ll get home—you simply have no idea what’s going on. Imagine how paranoid you can get.

That’s how clients would feel when don’t receive updates from you, even if they don’t ask for it. If you find your client constantly chasing you down for updates, then you can definitely assume that you’re not doing your job well.

Remember that you are a virtual assistant, thus you work virtually. Clients don’t see the way you work, so it’s essential to keep them updated.

It’s not that hard to be SUPER! Start by thinking about it, then take action on it. Make it a habit to do great and Epic things! 🙂
